SIDMOUTH MAN SHAUN HARPER JAILED FOR OFFENSIVE SEX CALLS
A 51-year-old man from Sidmouth has been handed a prison sentence after engaging in inappropriate sexual phone calls while intoxicated to women in his hometown and in Axminster.Shaun Harper made calls to local businesses and women, shocking them with bizarre and sexual content.
One of his targets was a social worker trying to support him with his alcohol issues.
During these calls, he expressed sexual fantasies, made strange noises, used offensive language, and asked about their sexual preferences.
Harper has a history of anti-social behavior, including previous instances of making sexual calls to a hairdresser and waitress, which led to a Sexual Behaviour Order aimed at stopping such unwanted communications.
Despite these restrictions, he continued to offend, culminating in his current charges.
He pleaded guilty to five counts of making offensive, indecent, or obscene communications along with six violations of the Sexual Behaviour Order.
Exeter Crown Court sentenced him to nearly two years in prison.
The judge highlighted Harper’s repeated violations over the past ten years, which caused victims to feel violated, shocked, and anxious, with some describing feeling “creeped out.” Harper admitted he was intoxicated during police interviews but expressed remorse for his actions.
With a history of 80 offenses, primarily anti-social behavior, his solicitor emphasized that his crimes are alcohol-related.
Harper is now sober and committed to maintaining his sobriety, with suggestions for supervised release to prevent further drinking incidents.
