FORMER TEACHER JAILED OVER 1970S ABUSE IN LEICESTERSHIRE
A 93-year-old former educator has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a student during the 1970s.
Norman Clarke confessed to assaulting the girl at a school located in Leicestershire from 1970 to 1973.
Leicestershire Police reported that he frequently kissed the girl starting from when she was 13 and engaged in serious sexual misconduct.
He received a prison term of two and a half years at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday.
Clarke, residing on Malden Road in Sidmouth, Devon, previously admitted to six counts of indecent assault.
Additionally, he has been ordered to register as a sex offender for a decade.
The police stated that the victim, who reported the abuse in 2019, explained that the misconduct ceased after a few years when Clarke suddenly stopped paying attention to her.
Detective Constable Jamie Carr, the officer leading the investigation, commented: "The impact of the abuse has deeply affected her adult life.
What happened over four decades ago still remains fresh in her memory, and she contemplates it regularly.
This case should encourage other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, regardless of how much time has passed."
