SHEFFIELD MAN RECEIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A 19-year-old was discovered with a missing 12-year-old girl by a relative who commented he was "lucky he did not plaster him all over the station".
Police and family members began a search after she failed to return home.
The girl was eventually found at a railway station with Shane Taylor, who had given her cannabis and sexually assaulted her.
During the court hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, it was revealed the girl went missing last year.
Her mother continually called her and checked her Snapchat, but her location was turned off.
The girl, who was with Taylor, now 20 from Plymouth Road, Sheffield, described how he kept picking her up, and she would get in and out of his car before he kissed her, hugged her, and squeezed her bottom.
Taylor admitted to offering her cannabis—though not enough "to get you high"—and pleaded guilty to sexual assault.
He acknowledged that his actions were inappropriate.
Taylor told authorities he had been in Sheffield all day and denied arranging to meet the girl, even claiming his phone was broken.
The girl reported that Taylor kept picking her up and mentioned being offered cannabis.
The court sentenced him to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, along with a two-year community order.
The punishment includes 45 days of rehabilitation activity and 43 sessions of a sex offenders' group work program.
Taylor is required to register as a sex offender and is under a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
