SHANE MOSS FROM AUDLEY SENTENCED TO 23 MONTHS FOR VIOLENT ATTACKS AND STALKING

Shane Moss, a 29-year-old man from Audley, has been handed a prison sentence of 23 months following a series of violent and abusive acts directed at his partner, acts which were committed in front of their young child. The incident has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the violence and the breach of court orders designed to protect the victim.

According to reports, Moss, who resides on Maple Avenue in Crackley, initially accused his girlfriend of infidelity, a confrontation that quickly escalated into physical violence. During this altercation, Moss pursued her into the living room, where he pressed his forehead against hers in a threatening manner. In an attempt to prevent her from calling for help, he ripped out the phone cord, effectively cutting off her means of contacting emergency services.

Police were called to the family home located on Queen Street in Audley following the incident. Before law enforcement officers arrived, Moss's violence intensified as he strangled his partner in front of their child, an act that has been described as particularly disturbing and reckless.

Prosecutor Philip Beardwell detailed the victim’s account, describing her relationship with Moss as 'rocky.' He recounted that on December 4 of the previous year, after an argument where Moss accused her of cheating, he pressed his forehead against hers, causing her pain. During this confrontation, she attempted to dial 999, but Moss pulled the phone wire, preventing her from seeking help. The situation worsened when Moss placed both hands around her neck and began to squeeze, resulting in reddening marks on her neck.

Despite the existence of a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) intended to safeguard her, Moss continued to harass and contact his victim. Notably, he reached out to her on Christmas Day and again just before his arrest for stalking on Boxing Day, demonstrating a blatant disregard for legal protections.

Moss pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including stalking, criminal damage, and strangulation. The court heard that his behavior was particularly egregious given the context of the court orders and the fact that the child was present during these violent episodes.

During sentencing, the judge described Moss’s conduct as 'utterly repulsive.' While legal representatives argued for leniency, citing remorse and minimal injuries, the court emphasized the seriousness of the offenses. The judge pointed out that the violence was especially reprehensible because the child had to witness his mother struggling for breath, highlighting the emotional and physical trauma inflicted.

Ultimately, the court decided that Moss’s repeated violations of court orders and the violent nature of his actions warranted a custodial sentence. As a result, he was sentenced to 23 months in prison, a decision underscored by the court’s commitment to protecting victims and upholding the rule of law in Audley.
