OFFENDER WHO DROVE 200 MILES TO ATTACK HIS FATHER GETS LIFE IMPRISONMENT

A man who traveled over 200 miles to carry out a violent late-night stabbing attack on his father has received a life prison sentence.

Abdul Rouf sustained multiple stab wounds and was in intensive care for 15 days following the assault, which was carried out by his eldest son from his first marriage, Shahnaz Hussain.

Hussain, who came from South Wales and concealed his face in dark clothing, waited in the backyard before attacking Mr Rouf as he stepped outside for a cigarette in April of the previous year.

During the trial at Bradford Crown Court in February, evidence revealed that Mr Rouf, aged 52, was discovered bleeding on his kitchen floor and that police indicated he might have died without swift medical treatment.

Hussain, now 34 and from Milford Haven, initially denied charges of attempted murder and possessing a knife but later admitted guilt in front of the jury.

The prosecution argued that Hussain’s motive stemmed from animosity over his father's remarriage post-divorce and a desire to inherit his father’s estate, which was linked to the attack.

Mr Rouf believed that his son aimed to kill him because he refused to give him what he demanded regarding the inheritance, and he also hinted that Hussain may have mental health issues, noting threats had increased over several years.

Investigators recovered a bloodstained knife matching Mr Rouf’s DNA in Hussain's vehicle upon his return to South Wales.

In a victim impact statement released last July, Mr Rouf detailed ongoing psychological distress, including nightmares and flashbacks related to the incident.

Evidence surfaced that Hussain later changed his pleas after authorities found a mobile phone recording showing him visiting his father’s home in Bradford while the victim was abroad, during which he issued threats to murder his father and stepmother.

Hussain’s defense argued that he believed his father had caused him harm and had abused him, asserting efforts at family mediation had failed.

The court described the attack as planned and ruthless, sentencing Hussain to life imprisonment with a minimum term of nearly 13 years before eligibility for parole.

The attack was premeditated, with Hussain arriving with his wife and her children, armed with a knife and disguise, waiting for his father to come outside for a cigarette, demonstrating the carefully planned nature of the assault.
