SEBASTIAN RAMPLEY FROM HOLT SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND VIDEOS IN NORWICH
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Holt, Norfolk, Sebastian Rampley, aged 31, was found to be in possession of a significant collection of illegal material involving children. The police conducted a thorough search of Rampley's residence on Cromer Road after receiving credible information that indecent images were being uploaded from his address. During the search, officers seized a Samsung phone concealed within a toolbox, which contained a staggering total of 334 indecent images of children and 170 videos depicting exploitative content.Further investigation revealed that Rampley had recorded live streaming footage featuring young boys engaged in sexual acts. The authorities also uncovered evidence that he had visited online chat rooms where he engaged in sexual conversations with other males, some of whom appeared to be minors. These activities raised serious concerns about his ongoing risk to the community and his pattern of offending.
Prosecutor Ian James explained that Rampley, who is a registered sex offender, was already under scrutiny due to a previous conviction. In 2016, he received a 10-month suspended sentence for possession of indecent images. However, despite this prior conviction, Rampley continued to offend, and police investigations revealed that he had breached a sexual harm prevention order and a suspended sentence order by possessing and sharing illegal material again.
During the court proceedings at Norwich Crown Court, Rampley admitted to multiple charges, including possession of indecent images, attempting to cause a male under 16 to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to communicate sexually with a child. His guilty pleas were noted, but the severity of his actions prompted the judge to impose a substantial sentence.
Judge Stephen Holt sentenced Rampley to 58 months in prison and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life. The judge emphasized the high risk of re-offending, stating, “You accept you have a serious problem which has to be treated otherwise you are going to receive longer and longer sentences.”
Judge Holt also highlighted the concerning escalation in Rampley’s offending behavior, noting that despite his previous conviction, he had continued to offend and his actions had become more serious. Nevertheless, the judge acknowledged Rampley’s guilty plea, which contributed to the sentence. He concluded by remarking that Rampley had voluntarily disclosed the location of his phone when police began their search, indicating some level of cooperation amidst his criminal conduct.
