SEAN DOEL SENTENCED IN TAUNTON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES DISGUSTS FAMILY
In a case that has shocked the community of Taunton, the family of a young girl who was subjected to sexual abuse expressed their profound disappointment and outrage over the relatively lenient sentence handed down to Sean Doel.The incident, which came to light during a court hearing at Taunton Crown Court, involved the 38-year-old resident of Laburnum Street, Taunton, who was found guilty of multiple serious charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to court proceedings, the prosecution outlined how Doel had engaged in a disturbing pattern of grooming and abuse over a period of six weeks starting in December of the previous year.
The victim, a girl under the age of 16 whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was targeted by Doel through various communication channels.
It was revealed that he had exchanged sexually explicit emails and photographs with her, and maintained contact via social media platform Facebook as well as through text messaging.
These interactions were part of a calculated effort to manipulate and exploit the young girl.
Prosecutor William Hunter detailed the gravity of the offenses, stating that Doel had kissed the girl, later asking her to perform a sexual act, which she complied with.
The court heard that Doel also groped her and engaged in sexual activity with her.
On some occasions, both the offender and the victim had been drinking alcohol, which added to the disturbing nature of the case.
During these exchanges, Doel expressed love for the girl and repeatedly urged her to keep their interactions secret, emphasizing the manipulative and coercive aspects of his conduct.
The abuse was ultimately discovered by the victim’s mother, who found her daughter’s diary and uncovered evidence of the inappropriate relationship.
This discovery led to the police investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
In his defense, Harry Ahuja, representing Doel, attempted to provide some context for his client’s behavior, citing a pornography addiction and a particular sexual preference involving images of adult women dressed as schoolgirls.
Ahuja also acknowledged that Doel had previous convictions but insisted that none were of a similar nature to the current charges.
Sean Doel pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
Despite the gravity of these charges, the court sentenced him to just two years in prison.
It was noted that Doel had already served 111 days in custody, which would be deducted from his sentence, potentially allowing him to be released on license within a year.
Furthermore, Doel was subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and will be registered on the Sex Offenders Register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The family of the victim expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We’re disgusted with the judicial system – it’s not fair compared to what he put her through.
She still cries a lot and is very emotional.” Their comments reflect the ongoing trauma faced by the young girl and the community’s concern over the adequacy of the punishment for such a serious crime.
