MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
A 40-year-old man received a prison sentence of two years and five months after admitting guilt to charges of controlling and coercive behaviour (CCB), strangulation, and criminal damage.Sean Brady, aged 40 (born 15 October 1985), from Sunbury-on-Thames, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on 6 February, a Friday.
The police had been alerted after a woman called 999 at 10.57pm on Monday, 31 March last year, reporting that her former partner had climbed onto her car and caused significant damage.
Prior to this incident, Brady had sent her a series of threatening and abusive messages.
Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the woman, who revealed she had endured five years of physical and psychological abuse.
She provided statements explaining the controlling and coercive behaviour demonstrated by Brady and how he would escalate the situation.
Over time, the abuse intensified, resulting in multiple assaults against her.
Brady was known to throw objects at her, and on one occasion, he strangled her.
Law enforcement launched urgent efforts to locate him, leading to his arrest on Wednesday, 2 April.
Brady admitted guilt on the first day of his trial and was subsequently sentenced last week.
