DARLINGTON MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING PARTNER IN DRUNKEN RAGE
A drunken thug named Sean Bradley, aged 49, who repeatedly strangled his long-term partner in an alcohol-fueled rage, has been sentenced to prison.
The incident occurred in his Darlington home during November last year, where he was drinking with a friend and his partner.
Bradley became aggressive, destroying his partner’s phone by smashing it on the floor and smashing up the house they shared.Teesside Crown Court heard how Bradley followed his partner into another room and launched a violent attack.
Nigel Soppitt, prosecuting, detailed how Bradley snatched the phone from his partner and threw it at the television, smashing the screen.
He then picked up a metal-legged table and threw it at her.
Subsequently, he placed his hands around her throat and squeezed as hard as he could, rendering her unable to shout or breathe for a period of time.
The victim escaped the house and took refuge with a neighbour before calling the police.
When she returned home, she found the significant damage caused by Bradley.Sean Bradley pleaded guilty to two charges of non-fatal strangulation and one of criminal damage.
He stated in court, ‘I’m ashamed to be here before you today.
There’s no excuse for what I have done.’ The court sentenced him to a total of 20 months in prison for the offences and imposed a five-year restraining order to protect the victim.
The judge highlighted that Bradley’s actions were devastating, noting his assault included strangling the victim twice and property destruction.
Bradley, who now resides in Highland Gardens, Shildon, was also self-representing during the trial.
