DUNDEE LIBRARY STALKER CONVICTED FOR SEXUALLY-ABUSIVE NOTE CAMPAIGN

Scott Taylor was found guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court of stalking three female staff members at the Strathmartine Road library between May and September 2025.

He subjected staff to months of terror by bombarding them with sexually-abusive insults on bookie slips, and trashed a toilet while young primary school children were visiting Coldside Library.

Taylor blamed another man, Gerrard Wilkinson, for writing the insulting notes, some of which were homophobic, but evidence including CCTV confirmed Taylor was responsible.

The court considered placing him on the sex offenders register, as the sheriff noted the offences may have been sexually motivated.

Taylor, aged 57, remains remanded at HMP Perth with sentencing deferred until later in the month.

The court recognized his actions as seriously prejudiced against sexual orientation, and he was ultimately guilty of all three stalking charges.

—————————————————————————————————— A terrified woman was trapped inside a flat in Dundee and sexually assaulted by a 57-year-old man who wore a Tasmanian Devil-style cartoon mask during the ordeal.

Scott Taylor concealed the keys to his Arklay Terrace flat by placing them inside a washing machine, preventing the woman from leaving.

Jurors heard she feared she was about to be raped before the situation was interrupted when her daughter arrived at the property and raised the alarm.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Taylor was unanimously convicted of abducting the woman and sexually assaulting her with intent to rape.

The court had heard that, after hiding the keys, he forced the woman onto a bed, exposed himself and pressed his genitals against her while attempting to kiss her repeatedly.

He eventually kissed her on the cheek.

A hammer was reportedly positioned near the door and another on a kitchen windowsill.

During the incident, Taylor moved around the flat wearing a Tasmanian Devil mask.

At one point, he picked up a used condom and threatened to claim it proved a sexual encounter, telling the woman he would inform her partner.

In her closing address, prosecutor Emma Farmer described the episode as deeply frightening.

The woman told the jury she had been locked inside, screaming for help, with the keys deliberately hidden.

Police later forced entry after her daughter realised something was wrong.

Taylor’s police interview was described as erratic.

He claimed the keys had been left in the pocket of jeans placed in the washing machine.

However, the woman stated he was wearing jeans over tracksuit bottoms when he exposed himself, and officers noted he was still dressed that way when detained.

The court heard the woman believed Taylor was aware she suffered from a medical condition affecting her balance.

Her daughter told jurors that Taylor said she would “have another sister by the end of the night”, which the prosecution argued demonstrated his intent.

Taylor also claimed he had been drinking heavily and could not recall parts of the incident.

Female officers initially attended the scene, but additional male officers were requested after he allegedly made explicit remarks.

Defence solicitor Gary Foulis challenged the reliability of the complainer’s account, noting she had gone to the flat voluntarily and remained there for some time.

He argued there were inconsistencies in the evidence, including confusion over the type of mask worn, and maintained there had been no intention to detain or assault her.

Taylor, formerly of Strathmartine Road and currently held at HMP Perth, was found guilty of abducting and sexually assaulting the woman with intent to rape between April 17 and 18, 2024.

He admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, including making remarks involving the condom while masked.

He further admitted abusive conduct towards police and previously failing to attend court after being granted bail.

Sheriff Paul Ralph indicated that a custodial sentence is under serious consideration and requested a social work report to assess Taylor’s risk to the public and the potential for an extended sentence.

Now listed on the sex offenders register, Taylor remains in custody and is due to be sentenced next month.
