SCOTT ROGERS FROM BRADFORD AND HORNSEA JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN AND RAPE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Bradford and Hornsea, Scott Rogers, a 45-year-old former lead singer of a punk metal band, has been sentenced to a total of seven years in prison following his conviction on multiple serious sexual offences. Rogers, who was known for his performances at various bars and clubs in Bradford with his band The Black Lanterns, was found guilty of heinous acts including rape, voyeurism, and the possession of indecent images of children.

The court proceedings revealed that Rogers had filmed his abusive acts, which included the rape of a woman who was deeply asleep at the time, as well as the sexual exploitation of two young girls aged ten and twelve. During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, the jury was shown graphic footage captured on Rogers' mobile phone, depicting him raping the woman while she was unconscious. This footage was played in court as part of the evidence presented by the prosecution, leaving a profound impact on everyone present.

Following the verdict, Rogers was unanimously convicted of the rape and received a sentence of six years imprisonment. In addition, he was sentenced to an extra 12 months, to be served consecutively, for taking two indecent photographs of a sleeping ten-year-old girl and for filming another girl, aged 12, with a hidden camera while she was taking a shower. Rogers had previously pleaded guilty to these offences before the trial commenced, which also included charges related to possessing indecent images of young girls and a disturbing film depicting bestiality involving humans and farm animals.

Judge Robert Bartfield imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that is indefinite in duration, prohibiting Rogers from contacting his victims and restricting his access to computers and other electronic devices. Rogers is also required to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period, reflecting the severity of his crimes.

It was revealed during the sentencing that Rogers, who previously worked as a sales representative and resided on Bay View Avenue in Hornsea, derived sexual gratification from having sex with individuals who were asleep or unconscious. The judge emphasized the distress caused to his victims, especially noting that one victim discovered the footage of her rape months later, which caused her significant emotional trauma. The discovery of the photographs and videos of the young girls on Rogers' phone was described by Judge Bartfield as “disgraceful acts” that served to indulge his perverted sexual fantasies.

Rogers' background includes performances at notable events such as the Download Festival in 2013 at Castle Donington with The Black Lanterns, a band that gained an underground following after forming in 2010. The group was known for their intense and venomous style of music, performing at venues like the Bradford Gasworks. Rogers' criminal activities have now overshadowed his musical career, leaving a trail of devastation and outrage in Bradford and Hornsea.
