CARE WORKER TOLD TO REFLECT AFTER RESIDENTS CHOKE AND ARE LEFT IN SOILED CLOTHES
Sarah Irvine was involved in neglectful behaviour at St Ronan’s Care Home in Innerleithen, Scottish Borders. The Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) found that she failed to follow care plans for three residents on separate occasions.
Specifically, she did not blend a resident’s soup, leading to the woman choking and requiring emergency assistance to clear her airways.
Additionally, she failed to put support stockings on a second resident despite orders from a district nurse, and left a third resident in urine-soaked clothing and bedding despite instructions to change her.
The SSSC issued her an 18-month warning on her registration and ordered her to submit a reflective account of the incidents.
The behaviour is considered to have shown a disregard for the residents’ dignity and placed them at serious risk of harm.
