SARA TURNER BRADFORD PONIES IN TRAGIC STATE LEAVE INSPECTORS SHOCKED

In a heartbreaking case that has shocked the community of Bradford, Sara Turner, a resident of Silwood Drive, was found responsible for neglecting two ponies in a manner that led to their tragic suffering and eventual death.

The incident came to light in April 2020 when RSPCA inspectors responded to a distress call concerning the welfare of horses at a stable yard located on Fagley Road, Bradford.

Upon arrival, Inspectors David Holgate and Kris Walker encountered a scene of neglect that was both distressing and alarming.

They discovered two ponies, both in a severely neglected state, left to endure starvation and poor living conditions.

One of the ponies, a piebald mare named Blue, was found collapsed inside a filthy stable.

Blue was visibly emaciated, with her spine, pelvis, and ribs clearly protruding through her skin, indicating she had been starved for an extended period.

Despite her dire condition, Blue had recently given birth to a premature foal, a detail that underscored the severity of her suffering.

With the assistance of a veterinarian and members of the public, Blue was able to stand again, but her condition remained critical.

The stables where the ponies were kept were in a deplorable state, cluttered with rubbish and hazardous debris, creating an unsafe environment for the animals.

The inspectors also found another piebald cob-type mare named Willow, who was collapsed in a nearby stable and was similarly in a poor state of health.

The scene was described as deeply distressing, with the two ponies suffering in conditions that could only be described as tragic.

Following the discovery, the ponies were transferred to a boarding yard in an attempt to provide them with care and treatment.

Unfortunately, their health continued to decline, and after careful consideration, it was decided that the most humane course of action was to euthanize the animals to end their suffering.

The tragic outcome of this case resulted in the loss of two innocent ponies, highlighting the devastating consequences of neglect.

Sara Turner, who also operates a mobile microchipping business called MissK9, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the two ponies.

In sentencing, she received a 12-month community order, which includes 250 hours of unpaid work.

Additionally, she was ordered to pay costs of £300 and a victim surcharge of £85.

Turner was also banned from owning any equines for a period of ten years, although she has the right to appeal this ban after three years.

This case echoes a broader concern about animal welfare in Bradford, especially considering the recent conviction of Turner's husband, Andrew Garth.

Garth, a former owner of pet shops Allpets and The Bradford Birdman, was sentenced to a custodial term and a lifetime ban on keeping all animals after authorities uncovered the remains of guinea pigs, rabbits, and mice stored in freezers and bins on his property.

The tragic neglect of animals in this case underscores the importance of vigilance and enforcement to prevent such suffering in the future.
