BRYNMAWR MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND VIOLENCE
A violent offender, Samuel Scaddan, 46, assaulted his partner in a brutal attack that took place in his flat in Brynmawr.The incident occurred after the couple had been celebrating Valentine's Day, during which Scaddan consumed alcohol and tequila.
The court was told he pushed his partner into the bath, then repeatedly punched her and sprayed her face with freezing water from a shower head, causing her to believe she was 'going to die.' The victim sustained injuries including a head wound like a 'tennis or golf ball,' blood from her nostril, and bruising.
She pleaded for him to stop, but he continued his assault until he was eventually helped out of the bath.
A neighbor intervened, but Scaddan continued to degrade her, calling her a 'slag' and accusing her of infidelity.
Police arrived, and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Initially denying the offence, Scaddan later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court sentenced him to 16 months in prison and imposed a five-year restraining order.
The victim expressed ongoing emotional distress, feeling unable to leave her home and haunted by the trauma of the assault.
In mitigation, his lawyer explained that mental health issues, cannabis and alcohol use contributed to his behaviour, and he expressed remorse, feeling 'deeply ashamed.'
