SALLY BOON FROM BANGOR FACES CRIMINAL CHARGES OVER HORSE ABUSE IN HOLYHEAD

In April 2016, authorities responded to a distressing case involving Sally Boon, a resident of Llwyn Hudol, Bangor, with the postcode LL57 1SG. The case centered around her three horses, which were found in a severely neglected state in the Llanfigael area near Holyhead. The horses, identified as two bay mares named Lottie and Silkie, along with a Cremello mare named Polo, were discovered to be suffering from extreme malnutrition and a severe lice infestation.

When inspectors arrived, they found the horses in a dire condition. The animals were emaciated, with their bones—specifically the spine, ribs, and pelvic bones—easily visible through their thin bodies. The horses appeared lethargic, dispirited, and lacked proper care, including adequate grazing and nutrition. The lice infestation was extensive, further indicating neglect and poor hygiene.

The RSPCA was called to intervene, and an inspector conducted a thorough examination of the animals. It was determined that the horses had not been fed properly for an extended period, and their physical condition had deteriorated significantly due to neglect. Sally Boon was subsequently taken into custody and admitted to charges related to causing unnecessary suffering to her horses. She also acknowledged her failure to provide them with a nutritionally balanced diet suitable for their needs, which contributed to their poor health.

RSPCA inspector Mike Pugh commented on the case, stating, “These horses were covered in lice, had no grazing, and had not been attended to for weeks. All these factors meant that their body condition deteriorated, and they were in a poor state.”

Thanks to the intervention and care provided by the RSPCA, the horses were able to recover from their severe neglect. They received the necessary treatment and attention, and their condition improved markedly. The horses are now in a better state and are expected to be available for rehoming in the near future.

Sally Boon was sentenced to pay costs amounting to £500 and was disqualified from keeping any animals for the rest of her life, effectively banning her from owning or caring for animals in the future. This case highlights the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of neglecting vulnerable creatures in one’s care.
