MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE DURING NIGHT OUT
Sajjad Sultan has been found guilty of a serious sexual assault.He caused a 24-year-old woman to endure a 40-minute ordeal of fear beneath a tunnel in Manchester after he befriended her following an incident in which she became separated from her friends in the Gay Village.
According to police reports, Sultan offered to escort her to a nearby taxi rank, and they proceeded to walk along the canal towpath toward Deansgate Lock.
During this walk, near Princess Street, he seized her and assaulted her while she was immobilized by terror, unable to call for help.
The woman managed to break away from him at Piccadilly Gardens and contacted her mother, who came to pick her up.
Sultan was detained by police on 30 November 2018 and was subsequently convicted of rape and sexual assault by a jury at Manchester Crown Court.
He received a sentence of ten years in prison.
Police officials highlighted that the safety of women continues to be a key priority and expressed appreciation to the victim for reporting the incident, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining community safety.
