MAN JAILED FOR THIRTEEN-AND-A-HALF-YEARS AFTER RAPE AND ASSAULT CONVICTION
Marvyn Thomas, born on 28 March 1987 and residing on Belmont Street in Old Trafford, was handed a sentence of thirteen and a half years in prison on 16 March 2026 following a trial at Manchester Crown Court that lasted two weeks.On 3 February 2026, he was convicted of multiple charges including three counts of ABH, two counts of non-fatal strangulation, two counts of criminal damage, as well as sexual assault and rape.
The court proceedings revealed that Thomas exhibited abusive, controlling, and violent behavior toward his victim over an extended period.
Throughout the summer of 2023 to March 2024, he repeatedly raped her.
An incident after a heated argument saw Thomas pursue the victim into their bedroom, where he grabbed her by the throat, pushed her against the wall, and threatened her life, continuing his verbal and physical assault.
He squeezed her throat tightly, temporarily cutting off her air supply, but she was able to break free.
He then seized her again, forced her pants down, and threatened to have sex with her at will.
The assault culminated in him raping her.
In October 2023, the victim was badly injured in a sustained and violent attack by Thomas and required hospital treatment.
The violence extended into March 2024, with Thomas hitting the victim on Mother’s Day, causing unconsciousness and severe swelling and bruises to her eye.
After a period of no contact, Thomas reappeared in the victim’s locality, visiting familiar places repeatedly.
On one occasion, the victim and her family had to lock themselves inside a business premises, with staff blocking Thomas from gaining entry.
