LEEDS MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR DOMESTIC HOMICIDE
A man named Sajid Pervez has been handed a life imprisonment sentence for the murder of his wife, Abida Karim, at their residence in Leeds. The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to killing her in September 2020 at their Hovingham Terrace home in Harehills.
He was sentenced to a minimum of 22 years behind bars.
Evidence presented at the trial indicated that Ms.
Karim, a mother to seven children, had been subjected to domestic violence throughout their 21-year relationship.
Her family described her as an elegant, refined, and resilient woman who focused her energy on her children and husband.
It was reported that she was found dead under markedly violent circumstances after emergency calls.
Her loved ones expressed their grief, highlighting her kind nature and the unseen domestic abuse she faced, which she kept hidden from public view.
Detective Inspector Natalie Dawson from West Yorkshire Police commented on the impact of the crime, saying Pervez’s actions took his children’s mother away from them and that no jail sentence can compensate for her loss.
