BRISTOL MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG BOY
A Bristol man has been sentenced for a series of sexual assaults on a boy.Sajid Butt, of St John’s Crescent in Totterdown, appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Monday, March 12.
He admitted three counts of indecent assault, one count of buggery and one count of attempted buggery.
The court heard the offences took place in the 1990s, when Butt was in his 20s.
He was charged with offences as they stood on the statute books at the time: had they been committed today the charges would have been sexual assault, rape and attempted rape.
Butt, now aged 47, was arrested last summer after the victim, now a man in his 30s who cannot be named, reported the abuse to police more than 20 years on.
Michael Hall, prosecuting, said that Butt forced the child to perform oral sex on him before raping him and later attempting to rape him, on consecutive days.
Mr Hall added that the incident was first reported to police by the victim in Summer 2017.
The court heard that Butt has learning difficulties and schizophrenia.
Sentencing him, Judge Peter Blair QC said: “During the course of the first night he buggered [the victim], he forced [the victim] to give him oral sex.” Judge Blair sentenced Butt to six years under a Mental Health Act hybrid order, which means he will serve some of the sentence detained in hospital.
