SEXUAL ABUSE 'RINGLEADER' HANDED FURTHER JAIL TERM
A man convicted of a 19-year prison sentence for a series of violent rapes on a girl in Rotherham has received an additional sentence for sexually assaulting another teenage girl in the same town.At Sheffield Crown Court, it was revealed that Sageer Hussain targeted this second victim around 25 years ago, when she was approximately 13 years old and he was two years older, raping her in an alleyway.
Hussain had previously been described as the 'leader' of a group of men who sexually abused three young girls between 1999 and 2003.
Earlier this year, he was convicted of an extra count of rape, which the court ordered to run consecutively with his existing 19-year term.
Judge Charles Thomas stated to Hussain: 'The tragic reality is that, even at a young age, you were not the first to abuse and exploit her in this area and during this period.' It was explained that Hussain is nearing the end of the custodial part of his sentence, so the two prison terms will overlap.
A jury had previously learned that the victim, now in her 30s, was raped between July 2000 and July 2002.
Court proceedings indicated Hussain led her into an alley in Rotherham town centre and claimed he would not let her leave unless she had sex with him, the trial heard.
While the judge acknowledged Hussain was only a teen at the time, he emphasized: 'You had a choice, you knew what you were doing, and you knew it was wrong.' According to the National Crime Agency (NCA), officers from Operation Stovewood the investigation into Rotherham's sexual abuse allegations contacted the victim after identifying that she may have been sexually abused as a child.
Hussain was formally charged in February 2024.
NCA senior investigator Alan Hastings commented: 'The victim has demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience in reporting her abuse.
Hussain, already serving time for raping another girl, will now remain incarcerated longer.'
