BRADFORD MAN SADAVAT ALI ADMITS KILLING WIFE IN FAMILY HOME
A 36-year-old man has confessed to the killing of his wife at their residence in Bradford.Sadavat Ali appeared before Bradford Crown Court yesterday, where he entered a plea of not guilty to her murder but admitted to manslaughter.
The prosecutor, Timothy Stead, explained to the judge, Mr.
Justice Spencer, that Ali’s plea of manslaughter was based on diminished responsibility and this was accepted by the prosecution.
Additionally, two psychiatric assessments supported this conclusion, and there was no dispute over this.
The families of both parties had been consulted, and considerations had been made regarding Ali’s relatives.
The judge decided to postpone sentencing until Friday, March 25, at Leeds Crown Court.
Ali’s solicitor, Abdul Iftikhar, noted that Ali had been remanded to Newton Lodge Hospital in Wakefield, where he would remain in custody.
The defendant, who required an interpreter during proceedings, was accompanied in the dock by three hospital staff.
Family members had traveled from Birmingham to attend the hearing.
It was reported that Ali's children are living with his sister under the supervision of social services.
The family of the deceased, originally from Pakistan, lives there permanently.
Ali is accused of murdering his wife, Abida Bi, at their Thorn Street home in Girlington on Monday, September 20 of the previous year.
Mrs.
Bi, aged 36, was discovered at the scene after relatives made a call.
She had sustained serious head injuries and died shortly afterwards.
An autopsy confirmed her death was caused by head trauma.
