WISBECH MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE AND THREATS

A Wisbech man named Ryan Tyrrell, aged 37 and residing on Tindell Close, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence for violent and abusive acts directed at women in front of children. The court called his conduct a 'revolting and violent attack,' in which Tyrrell dragged his wife by her hair before five children, pulled her onto a bed, and assaulted her repeatedly as she tried to get away. Judge Grey described the assault as 'contemptible violence.' On February 2, 2024, Tyrrell broke into his home by smashing a window, with his wife and five children, aged five to eleven, present inside. He pulled his wife by the hair, resulting in a facial injury, and issued threats to kill her and the children. During another incident on Christmas Eve 2023, while he was on police bail, Tyrrell threatened a different woman with headbutts and murder in front of four children. He burst into a child's bedroom where she was hiding, brandished a long pole, and then seized a kitchen knife, insisting she join him; she refused, prompting him to stab a hole in the kitchen wall. Police arrived at the scene, hearing a child warn, 'He’s got a knife.' Tyrrell continued to threaten the woman with death when law enforcement intervened. He has an extensive criminal history, with 11 prior convictions covering 15 offenses, including assault causing actual bodily harm. He was given a suspended sentence for two battery offenses. His total sentence includes five years for making threats to kill, extended by two years to serve on license due to his dangerous offender status. Additional sentences involved three years for ABH, four months for criminal damage, and two months for common assault, all to be served at the same time. The court also issued restraining orders to prevent Tyrrell from contacting the victims until they are adults, unless through legal channels. Following his sentencing verdict delivered via video link, Tyrrell expressed disbelief, saying, 'Oh my God.'
