RAPIST CLAIMED 'SET UP' ON REALISING INCIDENT WAS RECORDED
A MAN who almost “begged” a woman for sex, despite her repeated rejection of his advances, went through with the act even though he knew she had twice previously been raped.
Durham Crown Court heard that the woman recorded the incident on her phone, and after the attack was reported, Thompson was arrested.
He denied any sexual activity had taken place, but upon viewing the recording, he claimed he had been, “set up.” The court heard Thompson, 25, of Maudlin Street, Hetton-le-Hole, admitted rape, but initially contested the case; he later accepted the prosecution case on full facts.
He has a previous conviction for assaulting a former partner in breach of a restraining order.
The judge sentenced Thompson to seven years in prison, imposed a restraining order, and made him subject to lifetime notification requirements as a sex offender.
