RYAN THOMASON FROM SKELMERSDALE JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCE BREACHES IN LIVERPOOL

In a recent development at Liverpool Crown Court, Ryan Thomason, a resident of Skelmersdale, has been sentenced to ten months in prison for violating a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) and failing to update his details on the Sexual Offences Register. The court proceedings shed light on the circumstances leading to his incarceration and the legal restrictions placed upon him following a serious sexual offence committed in 2009.

Thomason, aged 28, was previously convicted of a grave sexual offence involving a 13-year-old girl, which resulted in a three-year prison sentence. As part of his punishment, a SOPO was issued, lasting for seven years, explicitly prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 16. The order also restricted him from residing under the same roof as minors unless he obtained explicit permission from their parents, who were aware of his criminal history.

The recent incident occurred on December 27 of the previous year when police officers executed a warrant under the Dangerous Dogs Act at a residence in Skelmersdale. During their visit, they conducted checks on the residents and discovered Thomason living there with two children and their mother, who is identified as his girlfriend. According to prosecutor Stuart Mills, the officers uncovered details of the existing SOPO and found that Thomason had not disclosed his criminal background to his partner, which was a breach of the order.

Following the investigation, Thomason was charged with breaching the SOPO and also with failing to notify a change of address on the Sexual Offences Register. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was subsequently sentenced to ten months in prison. The court also noted that Thomason had previously been accused of breaching the same order by having contact with a 14-year-old girl. However, this particular offence was dismissed after the girl provided a statement claiming she had misled Thomason by pretending to be older than she was.

At the time of the latest breach, Thomason was on licence from prison, which further complicated his legal situation. His defence lawyer, Michael Hagerty, stated that Thomason had admitted to the breaches and emphasized that his client’s relationship with his girlfriend remains intact despite the legal issues. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the management and monitoring of convicted sex offenders within the community, especially those residing in close proximity to minors in Skelmersdale.
