RYAN MCKEE FROM GLASGOW AND MILTON OF CAMPSIE ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING SCHOOLGIRLS
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Glasgow and Milton of Campsie, Ryan McKee, a 25-year-old former gymnast and coach, narrowly avoided imprisonment after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving underage girls. The incidents took place within the context of his coaching role at a gymnastics club, where he was aware that the girls he engaged with were only 14 years old.McKee, who once represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, specifically the 2010 event in Delhi, was found guilty of multiple charges following a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court. The court heard that McKee, a pub worker residing in Barmulloch, Glasgow, had engaged in inappropriate and sexual conduct with two young girls from the Glasgow-based sports club where he coached. Despite denying the charges initially, the evidence presented during the trial led to his conviction.
The court established that McKee had kissed one of the girls and had asked her if she wanted to see indecent images of him, also requesting that she send him pictures. In a similar vein, he also kissed a second girl, with whom he exchanged naked photographs when he was 23 years old. These exchanges and acts of sexual misconduct were deemed to be lewd, indecent, and libidinous behaviors.
Sheriff Tony Kelly convicted McKee on three counts: engaging in sexual behavior and communicating indecently with one girl, and lewd, indecent, and libidinous practices with the other. The court also highlighted that McKee had a prior conviction in 2013 for sending a nude image to another underage girl, although he was admonished at that time.
As part of his sentencing, McKee was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid community service. He was also instructed not to contact any girls under the age of 16 and was placed on the sex offenders’ register. The sheriff deferred sentencing to allow for a background report and risk assessment, and McKee’s bail was continued under the condition that he must not approach anyone under 16 without supervision.
This case underscores the serious nature of the offences committed by McKee and highlights ongoing concerns about safeguarding minors in sports and coaching environments. The communities of Glasgow and Milton of Campsie remain vigilant as authorities continue to monitor the situation and ensure justice is served.
