RYAN DUSTAN FROM OAKHAM SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF UNDERAGE GIRLS IN MIDLANDS

In May 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Ryan Dustan, a man from Oakham in Leicestershire, who was found guilty of multiple sexual offenses against underage girls in the Midlands region. The case, which was heard at Leicester Crown Court, revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that has left a lasting impact on the victims and raised concerns about potential additional victims who may still be out there.

Ryan Dustan, aged 22 at the time of conviction, admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged between 14 and 15. The court also convicted him on three additional counts of sexual activity involving another girl of a similar age. These offenses highlighted a troubling pattern of grooming and exploitation, which the court described as deeply harmful to the victims involved.

Furthermore, Dustan was found guilty of voyeurism against a third victim, who was above the age of consent. This particular charge stemmed from his act of filming a sexual act on his mobile phone without the victim’s knowledge or consent, adding another layer of criminality to his actions. The court heard during the trial that Dustan’s grooming tactics included providing alcohol to the girls, a behavior that began when he was approximately 19 years old. This manipulation and exploitation created a dangerous environment that facilitated his abusive conduct.

Judge Ebraham Mooncey delivered the sentencing, emphasizing the profound impact Dustan’s actions had on the victims. The judge stated, “There are three girls whose lives have been affected immensely by their experiences at your hands. They will have to live with that for the rest of their lives.” The judge also noted that Dustan’s behavior appeared hedonistic at the time, reflecting a reckless disregard for the well-being of the girls.

While the judge acknowledged that Dustan seemed to have changed since the offenses—highlighting that he now holds a steady job, has not re-offended, and appears to have matured—the court also pointed out that he was only about four years older than the victims, and no significant age gap existed. The court expressed disappointment that Dustan had lost his good character due to his actions.

In sentencing, Judge Mooncey emphasized the presence of alcohol, grooming, unprotected sex, and a general environment of corrupting behavior as aggravating factors. The court described the case as involving a “general environment of corrupting behavior,” which compounded the severity of the offenses.

As a result, Dustan was sentenced to a total of eight and a half years in prison. Additionally, he was placed under a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and will be required to register as a sex offender for life. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community, especially to vulnerable young girls in the Midlands area.
