RYAN DAWSON SENTENCED IN POLLINGTON FOR SEX ACT VIDEO TO 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL NEAR GOOLE
In June 2014, Ryan Dawson, a 25-year-old man from Canal Garth, Pollington, near Goole, was brought before Hull Crown Court to face serious charges related to his inappropriate conduct involving a minor. Dawson had engaged in a disturbing online campaign targeting a 14-year-old girl, despite knowing that her family strongly disapproved of his interactions and had taken measures to block him from contacting her.According to court records, Dawson used a Facebook alias, Ryan Colt, to continue his attempts to communicate with the girl after being explicitly blocked by her mother. The mother had placed restrictions on her daughter’s Facebook account to prevent Dawson from reaching her, but he persisted in trying to establish a connection, betraying the trust of the girl’s family on two separate occasions. His actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for their boundaries and feelings.
During the proceedings, Crown barrister John Thackray detailed how Dawson had set about trying to romance the young girl, despite the familial betrayal. Dawson’s behavior was characterized by a series of increasingly inappropriate messages, which included expressions of affection such as “I wish we were cuddling up” and “I will always be yours.”
Thackray emphasized that Dawson was aware of the girl’s age, as he had explicitly discussed the issue of her being too young for a sexual relationship. Despite this, his messages grew more suggestive, with him asking, “If you had the chance, would you sleep with me?” The girl responded that she was too young, but Dawson continued to push boundaries, asking her where she was and inviting her to join him in bed, even stating, “I want you now.”
Further evidence revealed that Dawson had sent the girl a video of himself performing a sexual act, which he stored in the My Cam folder of his computer. The girl’s older sister eventually discovered the messages and alerted the police. Authorities raided Dawson’s home and recovered the video, confirming his misconduct.
During the court hearing, Dawson pleaded guilty to a charge of inciting a child to commit a sexual act. His defense lawyer, Anil Murray, urged the court to consider his client’s lack of previous convictions and his immaturity, arguing that Dawson had not engaged in any physical sexual activity with the girl. Murray described Dawson as an immature young man whose actions were limited to the creation and sharing of the explicit video.
Judge Michael Mettyear condemned Dawson’s behavior as both immoral and reprehensible. He expressed his disbelief at Dawson’s decision to film himself performing a sexual act and then send it to a minor, especially when the girl had clearly indicated she was too young and refused to participate. The judge described Dawson’s conduct as “disgusting” and “terrible,” highlighting the betrayal of trust and the emotional harm caused to the girl’s family.
While considering sentencing options, Judge Mettyear noted that Dawson’s lack of prior convictions and his immaturity influenced his decision. Ultimately, he sentenced Dawson to a 12-month prison term suspended for two years, meaning Dawson would serve no time unless he committed another offense within that period. Additionally, Dawson was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid community work. The court allowed him to walk free immediately, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation and the seriousness of his misconduct.
