RUSSELL KYNASTON FROM OSWESTRY JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON CHILD AT LLANFAIRCAERENION SHOW

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Oswestry community and beyond, Russell Kynaston, a 35-year-old man from Smelt House Lane, Oswestry, was sentenced to six years in prison for the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl.

The incident, which took place in September 2011, was brought before Mold Crown Court, where Kynaston appeared after previously admitting to the offence.

Judge Niclas Parry addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the case by stating that Kynaston posed a ‘significant risk of serious harm to young children.’ The court was informed that this was not an isolated incident; it marked the second time in five years that Kynaston had sexually assaulted a minor.

As a result, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offender register for life and was explicitly prohibited from associating with children without supervision.

The judge acknowledged Kynaston’s psychological difficulties, noting that the offence was not premeditated.

Nonetheless, he described the case as deeply troubling.

Judge Parry expressed concern over Kynaston’s apparent ease in befriending young children and his own admitted struggles with self-control.

“I am entirely satisfied you pose a significant risk of serious harm to young children,” the judge declared.

Prosecutor Mr.

John Hedgecoe revealed that following the assault, Kynaston attempted to bribe the young girl by offering her £20 if she did not report the incident.

However, the girl promptly reported the matter to the authorities.

When questioned by police, Kynaston admitted to the assault but denied offering money to the girl.

Defense lawyer Mr.

Ray McVeighty described Kynaston as a “country man, a simpleton,” who hails from a good rural family.

He explained that Kynaston has worked the land, can read and write, albeit not very well, and lives at home with his parents.

He also noted that Kynaston has never had a romantic relationship.

In a separate but related case from March 2006, Kynaston was found guilty of sexually abusing a seven-year-old boy who had gone missing at the Llanfaircaereinion Show in Mid-Wales.

The court heard that Kynaston, who was then 29 and residing at Glenbrook, Smelthouse Lane, Pant, near Oswestry, was discovered with the boy after a “tickling game” that involved indecent assault and encouraging the boy to touch him indecently.

Kynaston, who has a mental impairment, was convicted on three counts of sexual assault and three counts of inciting a child to engage in indecent acts.

The incidents occurred in different locations, including two outdoors and one inside a horse box.

He previously worked at a farm museum but was then employed by a company that fills boxes.

The court sentenced him to two years of supervision, including 150 hours of unpaid community work.

As part of his supervision, Kynaston was mandated to participate in programs aimed at addressing his sexual behavior, either through adult mental health services or with a probation officer.

Additionally, he was disqualified from working with children for five years and was registered as a sex offender.

Judge Merfyn Hughes QC commented on Kynaston’s denial of sexual arousal, which he considered to be the motive behind his actions, and emphasized the seriousness of the offenses committed.
