SHANE HEIGHWAY PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD CRUELTY AND IS JAILED FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS
Shane Heighway was filmed entering the room of the eight-month-old baby before assaulting them and covering their face with his hands in August 2024.The 38-year-old's actions were filmed on a baby monitor, which alerted the baby's mother who called the police.
Heighway, from Porth-y-Waen in Oswestry, Shropshire, was arrested, charged with child cruelty and intentional suffocation, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to nearly two years in prison.
Medical evidence indicated it was fortunate the baby was not killed.
Detective Constable Daniel Bushell described the attack as "horrendous" and emphasised the impact on those involved, noting that Heighway's young victim escaped serious harm.
He was seen entering the infant's room, grabbing the baby's leg, dangling them upside down, then slamming them into the cot and covering their face, as shown in court footage.
The police response and subsequent conviction were commended, with authorities stating that such actions will not go unnoticed and criminals will face the full law's extent.
