HAREFIELD MAN ROY NEWMAN SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING A CHILD
In July 2007, a man from Harefield, Roy Newman, was formally charged and pleaded guilty to serious allegations involving the exploitation of a minor. Newman, aged 73 and residing on Hall Drive in Harefield, faced the court with allegations that he had engaged in inappropriate and illegal conduct towards a young girl.According to court records, Newman was found to have befriended a girl who was only nine years old at the time. Over a period of several years, he cultivated a relationship with her, which continued until she reached the age of 14. The nature of this relationship was deemed to be highly inappropriate and illegal, leading to serious legal consequences for Newman.
Following his guilty plea, Newman was sentenced to multiple penalties designed to prevent further offenses and protect the community. These included a sex offender’s prevention order, which restricts his activities and movements, and a three-year community supervision order that mandates regular monitoring and compliance with specific conditions. Additionally, Newman was ordered to remain on the sex offenders’ register for five years, a measure that ensures ongoing oversight of his activities.
Furthermore, Newman was disqualified from working with children under the age of 18, effectively barring him from employment or volunteer roles that involve contact with minors. This disqualification aims to prevent any potential risk to children and safeguard their well-being.
Detective Constable Nick Strivens, a member of the Child Protection Unit, commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of reporting abuse. He stated, “I would encourage anyone who is a victim of abuse to contact the police. I am grateful that the young victim in this case has been spared the ordeal of a trial, and I hope she is now able to put this behind her and move on with her life.”
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from harm within communities like Harefield.
