2000:JUDGE'S WARNING TO VIOLENT MAN'S NEW WIFE
A WIRRAL man who attacked a former girlfriend was told by a judge last week that he was "a control freak".Judge Denis Clark told Roy Garrett that it had been a "brutal, dangerous, unmanly and cowardly" attack.
And he added that he hoped Garrett's wife, whom he has married since the offence, knew about him and his previous criminal convictions.
Brendan Carville, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that Garrett burst into the home of his former girlfriend in December 1998, called her a slag and grabbed her by her hair and neck.
He threatened to kill her and then himself, banged her head on the floor and headbutted her, causing a cut over her left eye.
He threatened her with a poker but she managed to escape to a neighbour's home, where the police and ambulance were called.
Defence barrister Desmond Lennon said that Garrett claimed his ex-girlfriend, a nurse, had been jealous and it was her attitude which caused the incident.
Garrett, 33, from Lever Terrace, Tranmere, pleaded guilty to making a threat to kill and assault causing actual bodily harm and deeply regretted his actions.
He was jailed for ten months.
