PERVERT FILMED HIMSELF IN LINGERIE WHILE TRYING TO HAVE A SEX CHAT WITH A 12-YEAR-OLD
A man from Newcastle, Roy Drummond, was found to have engaged in disturbing online conversations involving a fake profile that he believed belonged to a 12-year-old girl. The incident took place over social media platform Kik in October 2021, during which Drummond dressed in provocative lingerie, including a panty set, various coloured stockings, a pink corset, and a baby doll nightie.
He sent explicit images and videos of himself, which included the use of a sex toy, to what he thought was a young girl.
The court was informed that Drummond, aged 35 and residing on Condercum Road in the Benwell area of Newcastle, was under the impression that he was communicating with a minor.
However, it was revealed during the proceedings that the profile he used was actually created by a covert police officer operating undercover.
The prosecutor, Joe Hedworth, explained to the court that the supposed 12-year-old girl did not exist and that the entire interaction was with law enforcement.
Mr.
Hedworth stated, "She said she was a girl aged 12.
The defendant continued the conversation and it was sexual from the off.
He said 'girls in uniform are cute.'" The court heard that the graphic and sexually explicit chat persisted over several days until authorities arrested Drummond.
During his police interview, he denied any genuine sexual interest in children, claiming that he had become involved in the conversation out of 'stupidity.' He maintained that he did not intend to harm or exploit a minor.
Roy Drummond pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child between October 7 and October 19, 2021.
The court was told that he believed he was talking to an underage girl, but in reality, he was communicating with an undercover officer.
The judge, Recorder Abdul Iqbal, sentenced Drummond to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.
The sentence also included requirements for rehabilitation and 100 hours of unpaid community work.
Additionally, Drummond is mandated to register as a sex offender and must adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for the next ten years.
In delivering his judgment, Recorder Iqbal emphasized the seriousness of the offense, stating, "You said you thought you were talking to an adult pretending to be a child.
Whether that's true or not is debatable.
It is clear you were communicating with someone who was telling you she was 12 and you were obtaining sexual gratification from explaining to her your own sexual interests." Representing Drummond, solicitor Kate Barnes highlighted that her client has ADHD, which she described as contributing to impulsivity and poor decision-making.
She argued that Drummond poses a low risk to the community, has fully cooperated with authorities, and can be safely managed within the community setting.
