SOUTHPORT PAEDOPHILE CAUGHT PHOTOGRAPHING GIRL THROUGH WINDOW AND ENGAGING IN CHILD SEX CHATS
Roy Bryers, a 49-year-old man from Southport, has been sentenced to three years in prison after committing multiple serious offenses involving child abuse. He was found to have spied on a young girl and taken photographs of her through her bedroom window as she was undressing.
Among the images recovered on his electronic devices was a photo of the girl standing naked at her bedroom window, which he himself took and kept on his phone.
Bryers also accessed and visited websites and forums related to child sex abuse, including the profile "OldMaleForYoungFem." Police seized his devices on July 9, 2020, and discovered he had been in contact with a paedophile hunter, allegedly engaging in chat conversations with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl named Izzy on WhatsApp.
Despite being told the girl was 12, Bryers continued the conversations, asking for further photos and discussing sexual matters.
He also lied about his age and occupation, claiming to be in the armed forces.
Furthermore, he was found to possess 11 Category A images of children, which depict child rape, and 15 Category C images, including the photograph of the young girl through her window.
Bryers admitted to charges involving attempts to engage with a child in a sexual context and possessing indecent images.
His actions have rightly horrified his victim's family, especially her father, who expressed being "sickened" by what Bryers did.
The court heard Bryers had no previous convictions and had served in the Royal Air Force for six years, including in Afghanistan, and worked for 12 years for his current employer.
His defense argued that he was of good character and had an impressive career background.
However, the judge, Robert Trevor-Jones, emphasized that Bryers had clearly sexualised his interactions with the supposed 12-year-old girl and had taken a photo of a child in her private moment.
Bryers was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, required to sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, and to follow a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.
Additionally, a five-year restraining order was imposed to protect the victim, and his electronic devices were ordered to be destroyed.
The judge also noted the involvement of a paedophile hunter who initially contacted Bryers and commented that Bryers's continued online engagement with the girl was fully inappropriate and disturbing.
