BALLOCH MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR RAPE AND BOASTING ABOUT THE CRIME
A man named Ross Wilkinson from Balloch has been convicted and sentenced for a sexual assault. The incident occurred in the early hours of April 3, 2016, when Wilkinson, 20 years old, forcibly had sex with a female friend after a night out at a birthday party in Glasgow.
They returned to a bungalow in the grounds of Wilkinson’s parents’ home, where the attack took place.
Wilkinson was found guilty by a jury at the High Court in Dumbarton after a trial held in August.
During sentencing, judge Lord Uist described Wilkinson’s attitude toward women as 'in need of severe correction' and highlighted that Wilkinson showed no remorse and continued to deny guilt.
The court noted that Wilkinson had sent a text boasting about the attack, saying he had 'banged a burd,' and also sent a message to a colleague claiming he had 'got his carrot wet,' indicating a deplorable attitude towards women.
Several witnesses testified to seeing or hearing the victim crying and shaking after the assault.
Wilkinson was sentenced to five years in prison and will be subject to indefinite reporting requirements under the Sexual Offences Act.
The judge emphasized that Wilkinson had no previous convictions and that there were no physical injuries caused to the victim.
