RONALD TOYER SENTENCED IN ST AUSTELL FOR MULTIPLE SEX ATTACKS ON VULNERABLE VICTIMS
In 2016, Ronald Michael Toyer, 50, of Clifden Road, St Austell, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting two vulnerable women and attempting to assault a third.Toyer was found guilty by a jury of two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.
He had targeted a disabled pensioner and a homeless teenager, with the court also hearing about an additional attempt to assault a woman in her sixties.
He received an extended custodial sentence for public protection at Truro Crown Court.
The judge stated it was “difficult to see” when Toyer would be considered safe for release.
His sentence comprised an 18-year jail term plus an additional six years on licence after his release.
Toyer challenged his sentence at the Court of Appeal in London, with lawyers arguing that it was excessive.
However, three senior judges dismissed his appeal, affirming that his punishment was appropriate.
The court detailed Toyer’s crimes, revealing he targeted his first victim, a woman in her sixties with severe physical disabilities, after she refused to have sex with him.
Within a few months, he attempted to rape another pensioner.
His final victim was a 19-year-old homeless girl he met in a park.
The teenager agreed to visit his home, hoping for a shower, but he offered her alcohol and cannabis before assaulting her while she slept.
She later told police that she only realized she had been raped because Toyer was “boasting” about it the following day.
