ROGER WIRTZ FROM WOODFORD HALSE SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN NORTHAMPTON
In a case that has shocked the local community of Woodford Halse, a 59-year-old resident named Roger Wirtz has been found guilty of possessing a significant collection of indecent images depicting children. The incident came to light after authorities conducted a search of his residence on Sidney Road on July 25, 2014, during which they seized his computer hard drive. Subsequent analysis revealed that Wirtz had stored a disturbing number of illicit images, including 35 photographs classified as the most serious Category A, along with 12 images categorized as Category B, and 57 images falling under Category C.Wirtz appeared before Northampton Crown Court on a Friday to face the charges. He pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children, a crime that carries severe legal and moral implications. During the hearing, Claire Howell, representing Wirtz, emphasized her client’s remorse, stating that he was “deeply ashamed” of his actions and the harm caused.
The court heard that the images Wirtz possessed were of a highly disturbing nature, with the most serious Category A images indicating the presence of the most severe forms of abuse. The judge, His Honour Rupert Mayo, expressed the court’s grave concern over such offences, highlighting that the children depicted in the images had been subjected to harm and sexual abuse, which the justice system takes very seriously.
As part of his sentencing, Wirtz was ordered to complete a sex offender’s treatment programme, a step aimed at addressing the underlying issues that led to his offending. Additionally, he was given a three-year community order, which involves strict supervision and compliance with certain conditions. Wirtz is also required to sign the sex offender’s register, a public record that monitors individuals convicted of sexual offences, and must inform police of any change of address within the next five years.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those involved in such crimes.
