TRAGIC AXE MURDERER LOCKED AWAY FOR LIFE
Roger Geddes, aged 61, confessed to murdering his wife, Ann Geddes, a retired midwife, with an axe at their residence in Carnoustie during February. He accepted a plea of guilty to culpable homicide, citing diminished responsibility as his defense.
Mental health assessments determined that he was suffering from depression, anxiety, and delusional beliefs regarding testicular cancer at the time of the incident.
The court was informed that Geddes's mental condition was declining prior to the attack, a period during which his wife kept a diary noting his increasing agitation and unpredictable behavior the day before the homicide.
After the incident, Geddes was committed to the State Hospital in Carstairs for psychiatric treatment and will stay there until he is considered fit for release.
During the proceedings at Edinburgh's High Court, Judge Lord Doherty issued a restriction and compulsion order, which guarantees that Geddes will remain detained indefinitely due to the severity of his crime and the potential risk of further offenses.
