BOROUGHBRIDGE MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES DATING BACK TO 1980S
A 72-year-old man named Rodney Abbott has been sentenced to over 18 years in prison for multiple child sex offences that date back to the 1980s.Abbott admitted to a series of serious attacks, including six charges of raping a girl under the age of 16 and numerous counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14.
The court heard that Abbott took advantage of his victim "every opportunity" to abuse her, beginning from when she was just five years old and continuing into her teens.
North Yorkshire Police stated that Abbott, who was from near Boroughbridge, exploited her helplessness throughout her childhood, describing her experiences as "a constant stream of sexual assaults." In addition to his prison term, Abbott was issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a restraining order, and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
The victim bravery was praised by Detective Constable Mike Cope, who highlighted her courage in coming forward to expose Abbott's abuses.
