ROCKY WATTON FROM WITHAM ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CREATING OVER 300 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Witham, 32-year-old Rocky Watton was found to have produced a disturbing collection of indecent images of children, leading to serious legal consequences. On March 4 of the previous year, authorities acting on intelligence gathered a warrant to search Watton’s residence on Bramble Road, Witham. The police operation uncovered a significant amount of digital evidence, including multiple electronic devices such as laptops, hard drives, and a USB stick.
Upon examination, these devices contained a total of 323 indecent images and videos depicting children in various states of abuse. The images were categorized into different levels of severity, with 178 classified as Category A, indicating the most serious form of abuse imagery. An additional 96 images and videos fell into Category B, while 49 were classified as Category C, the least severe but still illegal.
Watton was charged and subsequently admitted to three counts of making indecent images of children. His admission came before Chelmsford Crown Court, where the full extent of his actions was laid bare.
The court sentenced Watton to a nine-month prison term, which was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period. Furthermore, he was placed under a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, restricting his activities and contact with minors.
In addition to the court orders, Watton was required to complete 120 hours of unpaid community work, participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities, and pay a victim surcharge of £140. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and restrictions.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and creation of illegal child exploitation material, and the serious repercussions faced by those found guilty of such offenses.
