ROBYN AND DYFAN WHELDON-WILLIAMS FROM WILLIAMS NEAR CAERNARFON FACE SERIOUS CHILD PORN CHARGES
In a case that has shocked the local community and raised serious concerns about safeguarding, two brothers from Williams near Caernarfon have been found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children. The brothers, Robyn Wheldon-Williams, aged 39, and Dyfan Wheldon-Williams, aged 42, both of the same residence in Bontnewydd, were brought before the court in Caernarfon to answer to multiple charges related to their involvement in this disturbing criminal activity.Robyn Wheldon-Williams, who is known for his role as a children's TV presenter on the popular program Brainiac, appeared in court alongside his brother. The court proceedings revealed that both men had admitted to a total of 11 charges, which included the possession and production of over 1,400 indecent images and videos depicting children. The offences spanned a period from January 1, 2007, to May 13 of the previous year, highlighting a prolonged period of illegal activity.
During the hearing, the judge, Rhys Rowlands, decided to adjourn the case until July 8 to allow for the preparation of reports by the probation service, which will inform the sentencing process. The judge emphasized that both men had pleaded guilty, which would be taken into account during sentencing, but warned that the absence of pre-sentence reports meant no final decision could be made at this stage. Judge Rowlands also issued a stark warning to Robyn Wheldon-Williams, especially noting the presence of a significant number of Category A images, which are considered the most severe.
Robyn Wheldon-Williams faced eight charges related to the making and possession of indecent images. The court detailed that the total number of images was 1,402, accompanied by 80 video clips. The offences were committed over a span of more than eight years, from early 2007 to mid-2016. Meanwhile, Dyfan Wheldon-Williams faced three charges. He admitted to creating an indecent photograph of a child approximately 12 years old between April 27, 2011, and May 13, 2015. Additionally, he confessed to possessing 40 indecent images of children during the same period. He also admitted to possessing extreme pornographic images, further compounding the severity of his offences.
Both brothers have been suspended from their respective teaching positions. Robyn Wheldon-Williams was employed as a teacher at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in Caernarfon, a role from which he was suspended following his arrest last year. He was also known for his work as a co-presenter on the S4C children’s science program, ATOM, and had previously been involved with the National Eisteddfod and Bangor University. Dyfan Wheldon-Williams, who teaches at Ysgol y Moelwyn in Blaenau Ffestiniog, is also suspended from his duties. Their arrests in September of the previous year resulted from a joint investigation conducted by Gwynedd Council and North Wales Police, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case and their commitment to protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
