ROBIN SAUNDERS FROM CALF HEATH JAILED AFTER HORRIFIC CHILD PORN DISCOVERY IN WOLVERHAMPTON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Robin Saunders, a property developer from Calf Heath near Wolverhampton, has been sentenced to nine months in prison after being found in possession of an alarming number of child pornography images. The case was heard at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where the severity of Saunders' actions was laid bare.According to court reports, Saunders, aged 47 and a father of two, was caught with an astonishing 280,000 illicit images of children on his personal laptop. The images were described as sickening and deeply disturbing, prompting a strong judicial response. Judge Nicholas Webb, presiding over the case, emphasized the gravity of the offense and the importance of a stern sentence to serve as both a punishment and a deterrent.
Judge Webb made it clear that Saunders’ refusal to admit guilt had hindered efforts to rehabilitate him and to work with the Probation Service. The judge stated that the best way to protect children from future harm was to impose a sentence that would serve as a stark warning. He described Saunders’ conduct as evidence of a disturbing willingness to seek out and share such images for personal sexual gratification.
During the proceedings, Saunders attempted to shift blame onto others, claiming that his work partners, a decorator who had worked at his home, and a family member—whose identity he refused to disclose—were responsible for the images. However, the evidence presented was overwhelming, and the judge noted that Saunders’ actions demonstrated a clear intent to view and share these images with others.
The case came to light when a prostitute Saunders had hired was appalled by the images she saw on his laptop. Disgusted by the content, she contacted the police and provided them with the registration number of Saunders’ Jeep, which led to his arrest. This act of bravery was instrumental in uncovering the extent of Saunders’ illegal activities.
Defense lawyer Peter Cooke acknowledged that Saunders’ possession of indecent images had likely been ongoing over a lengthy period. While he admitted that the images indicated a problem, he pointed out that most of the images fell into the lower categories of severity, rather than the most extreme classifications. Despite this, Saunders faced serious charges, including 13 counts of possessing indecent images and two counts of possessing extreme pornography. He also denied showing indecent photographs of a child, but was convicted on all counts.
As part of his sentence, Saunders was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subjected to a ten-year sexual offenders’ protection order. Additionally, he was permanently banned from working with children. The court also imposed a financial penalty, requiring Saunders to pay £2,000 in costs. His legal team had argued that a long-term community order might be more appropriate, but the court decided that imprisonment was necessary to reflect the seriousness of his crimes and to serve as a warning to others in the community.
