ROBIN BLEWETT, THE TWICKENHAM PREDATOR, JAILED FOR ONLINE SEX OFFENSES AGAINST TEEN GIRLS

In December 2007, a disturbing case of online sexual exploitation came to light involving Robin David Blewett, a man from Twickenham, Middlesex, who used the internet as a tool to target vulnerable young girls. The case garnered significant attention after Blewett was finally apprehended following a series of investigations that uncovered his sinister activities.

Blewett, aged 41 at the time, was caught after luring a 16-year-old girl from York into his home. His arrest was carried out by detectives from North Yorkshire, which subsequently triggered a comprehensive nationwide inquiry led by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. The investigation revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse and exploitation, with authorities discovering that Blewett had amassed a collection of over two million pornographic photographs and images depicting child abuse on various computers and storage discs found within his residence.

Further probing into his online activities uncovered that Blewett had created a database containing the names of more than 500 teenage girls. His method of targeting victims involved exploiting chat rooms and various websites, where he falsely claimed to be running a modelling agency. This deception was used to lure naive and vulnerable girls into trusting him, making them susceptible to his predatory advances.

During the court proceedings at Leeds Crown Court, Blewett admitted to multiple charges, including sexual assault and offenses related to the production and possession of indecent images of children. His actions were deemed highly systematic and predatory, posing a significant threat to teenage girls across the country. The court responded by sentencing him to an indeterminate public protection order, with a minimum jail term of five and a half years. Additionally, Blewett was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and was issued a Sex Offenders Prevention Order to restrict his future activities.

Following the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Thewsey described Blewett as a dangerous individual who posed a serious risk to young girls nationwide. He emphasized the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians, urging them to monitor their children’s internet usage closely. The detective expressed his concern, stating, “It is extremely disturbing to think that the girls involved in the investigation were approached by this perverted man while sat in their own homes. It’s a chilling thought, but it is one we must all wise-up to.”
