ROBERT WALTON GROOMS VULNERABLE WOMAN IN HULME - ESCAPES JAIL AFTER COURT HEARING
In a case that has shocked the local community of Hulme, Robert Walton, aged 63, appeared before Stockport Magistrates Court to face serious allegations involving the exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Walton, a resident of Cheadle Hulme, admitted to engaging in inappropriate communications of a sexual nature with a woman who was described as having a mental age of approximately 13 years old.According to court reports, the victim had recently undergone a significant medical procedure—specifically, a ten-hour brain surgery at King's College Hospital in London. During this vulnerable period, Walton took advantage of her weakened state by initiating and sending sexually explicit messages, seemingly with the intent to groom her for sexual activity. The court was informed that Walton's actions were calculated and predatory, exploiting her medical vulnerability and mental incapacity.
A psychologist's assessment was presented during the hearing, which confirmed that the victim lacked the mental capacity to give informed consent or fully comprehend the nature of Walton’s communications. This crucial detail underscored the severity of Walton’s misconduct, highlighting the manipulative and exploitative nature of his actions.
The disturbing messages were discovered by a relative of the victim, who confronted Walton about his conduct. During this confrontation, Walton admitted to the allegations, acknowledging his inappropriate behavior. This admission was a pivotal moment in the case, providing clear evidence of his involvement.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Walton was handed a relatively lenient sentence. The judge sentenced him to seven weeks in prison, but this term was suspended for a period of 12 months. Additionally, Walton was ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid community work and was mandated to attend a 20-day rehabilitation program aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.
The case has raised concerns about safeguarding vulnerable adults and the importance of vigilance in protecting those with limited capacity from exploitation. Walton’s case serves as a stark reminder of the need for ongoing awareness and intervention to prevent similar incidents in the future.
