ROBERT SELBY OF TOP VALLEY SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN NOTTINGHAM
In a case that has shocked the community of Top Valley, a man named Robert Selby has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses against a young girl.The crimes, which spanned over ten years, involved systematic abuse and culminated in a brutal rape, leaving a lasting scar on the victim's life.
Selby, aged 44 and formerly residing on Flaxton Way in Top Valley, was found guilty of 11 separate sex offenses during a five-day trial held at Nottingham Crown Court.
The charges included two counts of rape, highlighting the severity and brutality of his actions.
The court's decision resulted in a sentence of 14 years in prison, with the stipulation that upon release, Selby will serve the remainder of his sentence—potentially up to 20 years—under supervision on licence.
Detective Constable Paula Wilson, a representative of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, expressed her satisfaction with the verdict, emphasizing the gravity of Selby’s crimes.
She stated, “We are pleased with the sentence handed to Selby.
It reflects the horrific nature of the assaults he carried out on this girl, the severe trauma she was subjected to and the fact that she is still coming to terms with what happened – something she will never be able to forget.” Wilson also acknowledged the courage of the victim, noting, “However, Selby’s manipulative, cruel and selfish behaviour has now been stopped, thanks to the bravery of his victim who came forward after finding the strength and support to do so.
She can now start to try and move forward with her life.” The case underscores the importance of vigilance and support for victims of abuse, and the justice system’s role in holding offenders accountable for their actions.
The community of Top Valley can now hope that justice has been served, and that the victim can begin the long process of healing from the trauma inflicted upon her by Robert Selby.
