BRITON FERRY COUPLE BANNED FOR ANIMAL NEGLECT IN SQUALID HOME
A couple has been prohibited from owning animals for ten years after their pets were discovered in an extremely neglected state within a home filled with rubbish and faeces.
Robert Roy Rickman, 45, and Ceri Ann Rickman, 32, of Briton Ferry, Neath Port Talbot, admitted to charges of animal neglect involving 15 cats and two dogs.
An RSPCA inspector stated he felt "shell-shocked" and "heartbroken" upon finding the animals, describing the conditions as "squalid".
The home was described as "totally infested with fleas" and the animals were in a state of neglect, some suffering from allergic reactions due to the filthy environment.
The couple was sentenced to a ten-year ban on keeping animals, ordered to pay costs of £300 each plus an £85 victim surcharge, with all pets taken into RSPCA care to be rehomed.
The case was considered one of the worst conditions the inspector had witnessed, with the owner admitting causing unnecessary suffering to the animals and failing to meet their needs, resulting in the severe penalties imposed.
