ROBERT ROBERTS CAERNARFON SHOCKER: CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ONLINE CHATROOMS REVEALED

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Caernarfon, Robert David Roberts, a 57-year-old man, was found to have engaged in the possession and distribution of indecent images of children, revealing a disturbing 'dark side' to his character, as described by the presiding judge.

Authorities conducted a thorough raid on Roberts' residence located on North Road in Caernarfon last May. During the operation, police seized multiple electronic devices, which were subsequently examined by cybercrime experts. The forensic analysis uncovered a staggering 3,500 files that indicated a clear sexual interest in children. These files included images and videos that depicted young girls aged between six and fifteen years old.

Further investigation revealed that Roberts had used online chatrooms, where he maintained an 'online alter ego' with a keen sexual interest in minors. Search terms associated with such interests were discovered, along with messages exchanged in chatroom conversations that further implicated him in the online activity.

Roberts faced charges of making indecent photographs and possessing extreme pornographic images. During his court appearance at Caernarfon Crown Court, he admitted to these charges. The case drew significant attention, with the judge, Huw Rees, emphasizing the severity of the offense.

Judge Rees stated, 'This creates a demand for more abuse of children to satisfy the unhealthy, degenerate, and lustful demands of people like you. The images are shared widely and remain online forever and a day. This is why your offending is so serious.'

In sentencing, Roberts was given a six-month prison term, which was suspended for 18 months. As part of his rehabilitation, he is required to complete 60 days of Rehabilitation Activity and 180 hours of unpaid community work. Additionally, Roberts' details will be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years, and he must adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration.

Prosecutor Ryan Rothwell outlined the circumstances, explaining that police had received intelligence indicating Roberts was communicating with others online. A search warrant was executed, and Roberts admitted to using a tablet computer to access chatrooms. He also stated that there was no need to investigate other residents at his address.

The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and highlights the disturbing reality of individuals like Roberts who exploit digital platforms for harmful purposes, with the images primarily involving young girls aged six to fifteen.
