ROBERT MACLENNAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN LONDON
In a case that has spanned over four decades, justice has finally been served for a woman who endured horrific sexual abuse as a child in London. The victim, who came forward in March 2021, revealed that she had been subjected to rape and sexual assault by an older man during her time at a primary school located in Islington in the mid-1980s.
According to her account, the abuse persisted for approximately two years, during which the perpetrator was identified as Robert MacLennan.
At the time of the abuse, MacLennan was employed as the groundskeeper at the school and resided on the premises, which facilitated his access to the young girl.
Following her disclosure, law enforcement authorities launched a thorough investigation into the allegations.
MacLennan was subsequently arrested in April 2021.
During police interviews, he admitted to sexually assaulting the victim but denied the more serious charge of rape.
This discrepancy became a focal point for the investigators as they sought to establish a comprehensive case against him.
Detectives worked diligently to gather additional evidence, including identifying and interviewing witnesses who could corroborate the victim’s account.
Their efforts culminated in the submission of a detailed dossier of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service in May 2022.
The CPS then formally charged MacLennan with multiple offences related to the abuse.
The case proceeded to trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where MacLennan faced justice for his actions.
After a careful examination of the evidence and testimonies, the jury found him guilty on 28 September 2023.
The court subsequently sentenced him to 15 years in prison on Wednesday, 24 January, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for the survivor and highlighting the importance of speaking out against abuse regardless of how much time has passed.
