DUNDEE THUG SNAPS AFTER BREAK-UP: DRUNKEN BRUTE TRIES TO CRUSH EX WITH GLASS CABINET IN HORRIFIC ATTACK
Following a breakup with his girlfriend in Dundee, a man carried out a violent assault which he described as "deplorable." The attack included an attempt to lift a glass cabinet onto his partner after pulling her to the ground.Dundee Sheriff Court was told that Robert Johnstone’s brutal attack took place the day after his partner ended their relationship.
Prosecutor Stephanie Patterson stated that Johnstone stayed overnight at her residence, but once she confirmed she would not be reconciling with him, he launched his assault.
The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to causing injury during the domestic violence incident, which occurred on August 12 in Dundee.
During the assault, Johnstone made offensive remarks, threatened her family with violence, and pursued her both inside and outside the house.
He repeatedly punched her in the head and body, grabbed her by the hair to pull her to the ground, and attempted to lift a glass cabinet onto her.
He also tried to hit her with his knee while holding her by the hair, and physically restrained her by gripping and squeezing her throat, which limited her breathing.
Johnstone had been released from prison on May 25, after serving time for two robbery convictions.
Solicitor John-Paul Gallacher told the court that his client struggles with drug addiction.
He stated, "He accepts full responsibility for his actions.
He admits his behavior was completely deplorable." "On that day, he had consumed a large amount of alcohol and is deeply remorseful for what happened." Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith sentenced Johnstone to 732 days in custody, covering part of an unresolved sentence, and imposed a five-year non-harassment order.
The sheriff remarked, "Fortunately, the victim did not suffer serious injury, permanent disfigurement, or long-term impairment.
Perhaps this was due to luck, rather than any effort on your part."
