ROBERT HURLEY FROM CHELLASTON INVOLVED IN SHOCKING BESTIALITY CASE IN DERBY
In September 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Robert Hurley, a resident of Chellaston, Derby, who was found guilty of heinous acts involving his pet dog and a woman. The incident came to light after police investigations uncovered footage that depicted Hurley encouraging his poodle to perform sexual acts with a woman, which he subsequently uploaded to a website dedicated to bestiality.During a court hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, it was revealed that the footage captured Hurley actively inciting and encouraging his dog to engage in sexual activity with the woman. The police seized electronic devices from Hurley's residence on January 31, 2021, following an investigation into a domestic incident, although no charges related to that incident were filed. The devices contained 25 videos and three images, all clearly showing Hurley on the footage, along with a woman and his dog involved in sexual acts.
Prosecutor Ben Payne explained that the footage depicted a poodle being prompted by Hurley to perform various sexual acts with the woman. The evidence also showed that Hurley uploaded these videos to a website that hosts bestiality content, which was considered an aggravating factor in the case.
Hurley, aged 52 and residing on Griffin Close in Chellaston, pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images during a previous hearing in early August. The court heard how Hurley attempted to justify his actions by claiming that the individuals involved were 'two consenting adults,' a statement that drew strong criticism from the judge.
District Judge Jonathan Taaffe condemned Hurley's behavior, stating, “To describe this matter, as you did to the probation officer as ‘two consenting adults behind closed doors,’ what does it matter? It displays an error of judgment at best and at worst degenerate and depraved behavior. Any right-thinking person would see the type of behavior you videoed and uploaded, even with the consent of the other person, as some form of abuse.”
He further emphasized that Hurley showed little concern for the welfare of the animal involved, highlighting the need for him to confront his attraction to such depraved acts. The judge pointed out that Hurley was responsible for both filming and encouraging the dog to perform sexual acts, and then uploading the footage online.
As part of his sentence, Hurley was ordered to complete 40 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service, undertake 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay costs and surcharges totaling £180. Additionally, he was handed a five-year sexual harm prevention order to prevent any future offenses of this nature.
