PORT GLASGOW SEX OFFENDER ROBERT FERRIER RAPE SCANDAL SHOCKS COMMUNITY
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Port Glasgow community, Robert Ferrier, a 21-year-old known offender, has been convicted of a heinous sexual assault committed just days after his release from prison. The incident took place at Bogston Train Station, a busy railway hub in Port Glasgow, where Ferrier targeted a 14-year-old girl in broad daylight, leaving residents and authorities alike appalled by the brazen nature of the attack.Ferrier had been released from incarceration only nine days prior to the assault, having served time for possession of a blade while on bail. His brief period of freedom was tragically interrupted when he committed the sexual offence, which has now become a grim chapter in his criminal history. The court proceedings revealed that Ferrier’s victim did not know her attacker, emphasizing the random and predatory aspect of the crime.
In December, after a thorough trial, Ferrier was found guilty of the rape and was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison. This conviction marks his 18th criminal conviction and the 12th time he has been sentenced to serve time behind bars. The severity of his actions and his repeated criminal behavior have prompted the court to impose additional measures upon his release, including a four-year period of supervised parole and an indefinite placement on the sex offenders register.
During the sentencing, Lord Arthurson addressed Ferrier directly, stating, “You were convicted of the rape of a 14-year-old girl, who was essentially a stranger to you. You had been released nine days previously from a sentence for possession of a knife while on bail. This was a grave sexual offence against a child, which occurred in broad daylight.” The judge’s remarks underscored the gravity of the crime and the danger posed by Ferrier’s repeated offending, highlighting the community’s need for ongoing protection and vigilance against such predators.
